Hotel Options:
Limburg is the southern provincial region in which Maastricht is located – may be helpful if you are doing regional web searches for hotels in the local area.
Hotel rates are determined on very specific case by case criteria and tend not to be heavily discounted for groups as a rule. However you can frequently negotiate a reduction in the standard rate if you are a) in a group, b) booking multiple nights or c) are having dinner in the hotel one evening during your stay.
Once you have chosen a hotel, the Groups Reservations team at the VVV in Maastricht (Tourist Board) is also able and willing to negotiate a group rate for you if you prefer to do this directly: this may be better than the internet rate, or the tentative block booking rates we have been offered but is dependent on your individual plans. For help with or advice on booking your travel or hotels (including assistance with your group reservations), please contact Linda Broome any weekday except Tuesdays after 6 pm: linda.broome@btinternet.com or telephone +44 (0) 1639-631431.
At the time of your enquiry, remember to request / specify:
No of Rooms needed for your party Discount for multiple nights Breakfast options - usually simple continental ones are provided so check at the time of booking. We regularly took refuge in the Irish pub, which does does an excellent and affordable cooked breakfast [er brunch] on a Sunday, and serves other “normal” (not French haute cuisine J) food all day.) http://www.johnmullins.nl/info.php If you do require breakfast in your hotel, expect a surcharge from 8.00 to 25 euros per person, except for children, who are often free up to the age of 12 yrs, and remember to specify it at the time of booking. Beds: Most hotels have twin beds in so-called “double rooms” (sometimes set up alongside one another, others apart as twins). If you want a double bed, you may need to consider the design hotels and the upper bracket hotels. Bathroom – Showers are standard so remember to ask if you want a room with either a bath or a Jacuzzi. Children’s beds: Typically these can be added to adults rooms with a typically surcharge of 35 euros per child per night over the age of 2 and under the age of 16. Baby’s cots: It is common practice to bring your own at no extra charge, and some hotels offer them free of charge. As with children’s beds, they may have a limited number so worth checking first. Child gates are something you need to specify when booking your accommodation if you do need them, and special arrangements will need to be made. Bar Area: Not standard in all hotels – ask when you book. Parking: Limited for some hotels in the centre of Maastricht and may be an additional charge on top of your room rate. Booking Tips: All hotels will become non-smoking in July this year. If you ask for “non-smoking”, there is a risk that you will be allocated what was a previously “smoking” room unless you clearly stipulate you want one which has either always bee non-smoking, or which has been redecorated since.

You can get a direct train from London or a train connection from Brussels, Dusseldorf or Amsterdam airports to Maastricht Central Station.
If you intend to restrict your stay to Maastricht itself, you won’t need a car – it’s small enough to allow you walk to most places and the local public bus service, provided by Hermes & Arriva is excellent.
How the local buses from the station work:
All city and regional buses have a stop at the central train station in Maastricht. Many buses also cross the Market Square in the centre of town. At each bus stop you can find an overview of the bus routes and the bus numbers. You pay according to the duration of your journey as follows:
You can cash pay the bus driver for the bus ticket (exact change is usually necessary) but if you buy a so-called 'strippenkaart' at the train station you pay 40% less. A 'strippenkaart' with 15 'strippen' (strips) costs about 6.50 euros.] You will use about 2.50 within the city limits per trip, or you can buy a day card for about 5 euros which allows you to travel all day on any route in Limburg.
We have a man on the ground who can get us the specifics for your routes, so let us know if you need more information. |
