CLOSE TO THE RECEPTION VENUE: APARTMENTS MESCHMOLEN:

www.meschermolen.nl* or English page: *http://www.meschermolen.nl/Engels_Meschermolen/Engels_Meschermolen.htm

+ Affordable and relaxed. Just off the main motorway into Maastricht so not difficult to reach. Close to the reception venue.

- Simple homely furnishing – not recommended if you want to indulge yourself in a luxurious weekend away.

If you have children with you or want to book for a large-ish group, (eg a couple of family members) we recommend you consider booking these apartments. We have reserved them for you until 31st March after which time they will be released to the public for general booking. They are affordable and rustic, set in the Belgian area of Richelle (the so-called “gate to the Ardennes”), approximately 2.5 miles / 4 km from the castle reception venue and about 10 km / 15 minutes out of Maastricht. They are well into the countryside down a single track road so you will need a car if you stay here. (The property used to be a working farm).  You would be wise to acquire a supply of good beverages and supplies for your fridge. [These can be ordered and collected for you in advance if you don’t have time to go shopping on arrival, so please be sure to specify the items you need in your RSVP: - we’ll make sure they find their way from the supermarket into your fridge before you arrive and provide you with bank details so you can do your own thing with your list. All the supermarkets close at 6.00 pm in Maastricht and 5pm over the weekend. They are closed on Sundays.]

Costs and payment:

When you confirm your booking, a 50 euro deposit per apartment is required, which we will cover on your behalf up until August 1st, when the deposit and the balance for the remainder of the booking for your apartments becomes due. The farm does not take credit cards so you can do an online transfer using the details attached, or ask Tim / Karen to make this for you on 25/7/2008 via their UK bank account.

*Cost refers, per apartment, for the period from Fri 4pm to Mon 11.00 am incl. but can be extended as required on an individual basis. (Check in for some of the apartments is possible on Thurs but not all of them – check on an individual basis). Minimal service and tax surcharges apply which you can obtain from Linda Broome.

Summary of facilities in each apartment:

The apartments are neat and clean with multiple rooms and a good size living area in all of them. There is a shared courtyard with ample parking, so it is a good location for bigger groups and families. There is a basic shared barbeque area with a set of swings and wooden climbing frames for littlies set not far behind it, and there are safe cycle rides to be had in the surrounding area.  [This is where the Guests’s Welcome BBQ will be held on Friday evening, 22/8.]

· Individual entrance from the courtyard

· A living room with fully equipped open plan kitchen (fridge, electric hob, microwave, dishwasher).

· All the bedrooms are 2 persons (this usually means twin beds which need to pushed together if you want a double)

· One or two showers with a wash basin and toilet, depending on the size of the apartment. In the case of the 12 person apartment, there are two bathrooms, and an extra toilet.

· A patio with garden furniture

· Childrens beds, cots, play pens and childrens chairs are available.

· Central heating.

· Cable TV, a radio and a cd player.

· Linen is provided at a small additional charge.

· The bar area will not be open in the evenings but the restaurant can be booked for breakfast at 8.00 e pp for continental and 12.00 e pp for an English Breakfast

Note that the bedrooms do not have child gates installed and all apartments are split level with stairs and there are no apartments with baths – all have showers.

Recreational Facilities in the area include:

…Cycling (surprise!), riding stables, a skating rink, squash, tennis courts, fishing, a small quay, canoeing, rowing, surfing, waterskiing and sailing on the Maas River (if you are really brave), and relatively straight forward access to children’s attractions in the surrounding local area.

OTHER ATMOSPHERIC HOTELS AND INNS OUTSIDE MAASTRICHT:

www.maastricht.nl.ambiancehotels.com

Ambiance Hotel Groups: The website could do with redesigning, but the hotels themselves are reliably cosy and of a good standard.

http://www.deoudebrouwerij.nl/

De Oude Brouwerij: Cute, simple, traditional hotel, set in the wine region about 20 minutes from the venue, which is ridiculously cheap for the standard of the care … charges about 30 – 50 euros per person per night inclusive of breakfast, with options for half board. You’ll need to be aiming for quiet surroundings and a car if you stay here. Has a good café with an open fire in the village.

BASIC 2 STAR HOTEL WITHIN MAASTRICHT TOWN CENTRE:

Bastion Hotel:

https://www.bastionhotels.nl/en/ourhotels/maastricht

Boschstraat 27,  6211 AS  Maastricht, Limburg, Netherlands, Tel.: +31 (0)43-3212222

Fairly standard hotel, comparable with a Travel Lodge in terms of the layout. (With the difference that there is a dedicated dining area within the hotel.) Rooms and bathrooms are small but clean and functional. This is essentially a place to rest you weary head and not to spend excessive amounts of your free time.

+ Around the corner from the “ ‘t Bassin “ a lively little harbour area with a couple of good restaurants and a couple of intriguing (trendy) bars. A stone’s throw from the very heart of Maastricht. Note that on Saturday morning the market will be taking place in “The Markt” and you will need a bit of extra time to explore your way through the stalls to the town centre. Staff are friendly and helpful.

- The hotel looks out over the Sphinx Sanitary ware factory location.

Hotel le Roi / St Martenslane : (Not connected or similar to the one in London.) Located near to the station in a less pretty part of Maastricht (looks a little soul-less on the outside) but has exceptionally easy access for the town centre and convenient for public transport. Modern and simple hotel rooms with basic facilities and good quality beds. Used regularly by Vodafone for business purposes, and equipped to set up children for the night.

Basic Design Boutique:

www.qbichotels.com

qbic: Cheap and chic – no frills, this hotel is totally new, and has good beds. It’s very central – near the station.  If early enough, you could get a room for as little as EUR 70.

Hotel kind of Blue: This hotel is bijou and averages about 150 euros per night for 2 people. It would make a great location for a group of friends who are travelling together.

http://www.hoteliban.nl/english/index.php

Hertogsingel 28, 6214 AD Maastricht, Tel +31 (0)433261316

+ Hotel IBAN: This is a neat, new hotel with 5 rooms with a warm and welcoming owner – also a great location for a group of friends travelling together. It is just as it appears on the website. It is set slightly further back from the centre of town than the others but has parking in the centre of town for 7.00 euros per day, or you can park outside on the street.

Good for a group of friends or a family with a very limited number of very young children, who can sleep in travel cots. The staff are very willing to add children’s beds at no extra charge but only have one in-house, which they can make available. The rooms are large enough to take the extra bed, but there is just one suite which has a separate area, which can be closed off for a third person or child, which is situated near the top floor of the hotel.

- The hotel is a converted Dutch house, so has many floors and goes straight up – don’t book this if you have heavy luggage or hate stairs - there is no lift.

Kleine Gracht 4 -- Tel: +31(0)43-3261111 6211 CB Maastricht Email: info@hotel-orangerie.nl

Hotel Orangerie: A more traditionally decorated hotel set just of the Markt (market place) with easy access at the end of the road to walks along the promenade beside the river. We were unable to view the rooms as they were all occupied, but it is allegedly decorated in black & white Conran-like simplicity on one side, with the rooms on the other side of the hotel decorated in Old English furnishing. (The latter will be the smoking rooms up to and including June 08 when everything becomes non-smoking).  It has a more traditional “Bruin Café” (Brown Café) Bar area. The hotel closes at 11.00 at night but all guests are given a key to the outside door on request for late night partying. They have a group reservations discounting option available.

Hotel de Pauwenhof: A warm and well-presented mid-range hotel, exceptionally conveniently positioned for the centre of Maastricht just further along the road from the Bastion Hotel. Children’s beds and cots (yours or theirs) can be placed free of charge. (Limited availability so check at the time of booking). Rooms are about 120 – 140 euros per night.

Ruiterij 1, 6221 EW Maastricht, T. +31 - (0)43 - 350.91.91 E. cpmaastricht@bilderberg.nl

Crowne Plaza – a more traditional hotel in the spirit of the larger chains (it belongs to Bilderberg which is the same chain that owns Kasteel Vaalsbroek). Not one of our personal favourites – we think it is over-priced, but we perhaps belong to wrong generation mentally … J Has a great location for enjoying the restaurants and town centre and fabulous view of the river, which is probably why ...

4 STAR WITHIN MAASTRICHT TOWN CENTRE:

www.beaumont.nl

Wyckerbrugstr 2, 6221 EC Maastricht Tel: +31 (0) 43 3254433  Email info@beaumont.nl

Hotel Beaumont: Sophisticated, modern hotel with rooms that are as they appear on the website. Good central location on the quieter side of the river, in the middle of the restaurant district. Excellent restaurant and swish décor (as with everywhere in Limburg) can be slow, unless you indicate up front you are in a hurry. There is a separate (though quite small) bar area which is essentially a selection of modern leather sofas around a fireplace, where you can order drinks until the wee hours.

Easy access to everything as it’s approximately 5 minutes walk to the main shopping area and centre of town, and situated plum in the middle between the station and the shopping area. A wedding group rate of € 152.00 per room per night single / double use has been reserved on 15 rooms. This includes a breakfast buffet, but excluding city tax & service charge of € 4.25 p.p.p.n. Parking is available in the garage for € 21.00 per car per night (limited places available – you can just as easily use one of the Q-Parks). Please reserve before 31/3 using the reference “WEDDING HAMERS” Group Reservation to take advantage of this rate. Concessions are available with dinner and you can book using a credit card.

www.la-bergere.com

Stationsstraat 40, 6221 BR Maastricht, t. +31 43 328 25 25  Email la-bergere.info@edenhotelgroup.com

Hotel la Bergere: Very modern design hotel – The groom’s personal favourite in Maastricht. Has the occasional fabulous and ridiculous rate offer, of about 80 euros per room per night and some truly funky rooms, each of which is unique. Typically in the more expensive bracket though. Great bar, good breakfast options (though not cooked English, but they will probably do it for you if you request it in advance), gym and internet access. Evening meals are limited, but you are not short of choices in Maastricht …. See restaurants list on the website after 3/3/08.

5 STAR WITHIN MAASTRICHT TOWN CENTRE:

Kruisheren Hotel Maastricht: Belongs to the luxurious Camille Oostwegel group … this is a very, very expensive (albeit beautiful) design hotel built within a converted monastery, with a good (but equally expensive) restaurant. Our recommendation is to stop in there at the champagne bar and at least raise a toast to your travels, as you’ll rarely see anything quite like it. There is limited availability for the weekend of our wedding so book early if you decide to take the plunge with this one.
